There are many activities for children, young people and families in Espoo during the New Year holiday. Workshops, movies, sports and much more. Come along!

Indoor and outdoor sports and exercise

·Swimming and guided activities at swimming pools 

  • Espoonlahti swimming pool
    • Tue 31 Dec 2019, 10:00–14:00 Wibit – a fun obstacle course in the pool
    • Thu 2 Jan 2020, 14:00–16:00 Mermaid swimming* and 17:00–19:00 Vesitöpinät – fun and learning in the teaching pool
  • Leppävaara swimming pool 
    • Thu–Fri 2–3 Jan 2020, 10:00–15:00 Wibit – a fun obstacle course in the pool

*Please note that there is a limited number of mermaid tails available. Guidance every 30 minutes at 14:00, 14:30, 15:00 and 15:30. With a mermaid tail, you can explore an underwater world where you can dive, roll, do corkscrew spins and blow bubbly kisses. To participate in mermaid swimming, you must be able to swim at least 50 metres on your front. You also need to be a confident diver. The minimum age is 7 years. Fee: the entrance fee to the swimming pool. Changes to the programme are possible.

Christmas holiday exercise at Esport Arena on 30–31 December 2019 and 2–3 January 2020 between 10:00 and 15:00.

  • Floorball and football. Free facilities available for playing and sports! There is a limited supply of equipment available. You may also bring your own equipment. Free entrance. No prior registration. We are not responsible for supervising children. Organisers: Esport Oilers ry and Sports and Exercise Services of the City of Espoo

Movies, exhibitions, shows and workshops

  • Children’s Cultural Centre Aurora celebrates the new year with the theme of hibernation. Hibernation workshops in January 
    • Thu 2 January Sparkly and fluffy snow balls, 10:00–13:00
    • Fri 3 January Ice crystals, 10:00–13:00

Indoor activities in the Art House: Enjoy the hibernation season with us in our arts and crafts workshops full of icy glimmer and in a sparkling snow castle. In the snow castle, you can walk on a shiny path through snow, touch the stars with your hands and even hibernate for a short while. Let’s jump into soft banks of snow, explore a snowy tunnel and listen to the music of the snow. The snow castle is suitable for people of all ages. Realisation: Hupsansaa ry. Free admission. 

·The museums of the Exhibition Centre WeeGee offer an extensive selection of exhibitions and activities. Free admission for persons younger than 18.

  • Finnish Toy Museum Hevosenkenkä:
    • Thu 2 January and Fri 3 January A Flying Start into Vehicle Play tour, 14:30. Follow the lead of the traffic controller and explore the wonderful world of traffic! The tour is suitable for the whole family.
    • Fri 3 January Friday Colouring, 19:00–21:00. All artists, big and small, are welcome to draw and colour fun colouring pictures at the Toy Museum.
    • Sat 4 January Twinkle Little Reflector workshop, 13:00–15:00. Make a unique reflector from reflective fabric.   
    • Sun 5 January A Flying Start into Vehicle Play tour, 15:00. Follow the lead of the traffic controller and explore the wonderful world of traffic! The tour is suitable for the whole family.

·Sello Hall 

  • Sat 4 January The evening programme of the Kibecon event held at Sello Library, 16:00–21:00. A cosplay contest, a show by AquaShine! and an anime film. Further information: Kibecon 2020

Events at libraries and youth centres

·Sello Library

  • Kibecon is an anime, manga and gaming event that takes over Sello Library on Saturday and Sunday, 4–5 January 2020. The event is suitable for people of all ages, and entrance is free.

·Tapiola Library

  •  Fri 3 January, 18:00, Friday movies for children. All films are spoken in Finnish and suitable for children (S or K7).

· Järvenperä youth centre 

  • Night at the youth centre, Fri–Sat 3–4 January 2020 for young people aged 13 to 17, from 19:00 on Friday until 8:00 on Saturday.
    We have room for 12 participants (no prior reservations). Please return your application for a youth centre membership card no later than at the same time as you bring your registration form for the night at the youth centre. The forms are available from the youth centre.

· Matinkylä multi-purpose building 

  • Thu 2 January: Baking, arts and crafts for primary school pupils (grades 1–6) from 13:00 to 16:00 and for secondary school pupils (grades 7–9) from 17:00 to 20:00
  • Fri 3 January: Gaming and tournaments at Chapple in Iso Omena, 14:00–21:00 
  • Sat 4 January: the Matinkylä multi-purpose building is open for primary school pupils (grades 1–6) from 14:00 to 17:00 and for secondary school pupils (grades 7–9) from 17:30 to 21:00
