The experts at the Employment Corner help Espoo residents with their CVs, give advice on job-seeking and discuss different training options with their clients. The new service has been so popular that the Employment Corner will extend its opening hours and have a permanent location at the Iso Omena shopping centre.
Since March last year, the Iso Omena Service Centre has featured a service point for employment and education matters. The service was jointly created by the cities of Espoo, Helsinki and Vantaa and the Uusimaa TE Office. The Employment Corner is open from Monday to Thursday from 10:00 to 15:00 at the Iso Omena Service Centre, located on the third floor of the shopping centre. You do not need to book an appointment to visit this low-threshold service. Clients are served in Finnish, Swedish and English. The service is intended for job-seekers who are over 30 years old. Services for young adults under 30 are available next door, at the Ohjaamotalo One-Stop Guidance Centre.
“This service meets the real needs of the local residents. We help our clients with their CVs and other documents needed for job-seeking. We give tips on how to find a job through social media. We also give advice on training, education and career changes. In fact, our services cover almost everything except official matters that are the responsibility of various authorities,” says Service Supervisor Sanna-Maria Paloahde from the City of Espoo’s Employment Services.
Employers and educational institutions have also found the Employment Corner. Every week, employers visit the premises to tell about job opportunities and to conduct quick interviews. Educational institutions tell about training options and offer guidance counselling. Once a month, the Employment Corner turns into a recruitment market where job-seekers can meet several employers and educational institutions representing a specific sector. During the spring, the Employment Corner will host recruitment markets focusing on the commercial sector, the ICT sector and the logistics sector, for example.
In the spring, the Employment Corner will also expand its services by making pop-up visits to the Sello and Ainoa shopping centres and the new Service Centre in Kalajärvi. “We want to offer services in locations that are easy for people to reach. The Matinkylä area and Leppävaara are natural places for us to meet people, and our aim is to strengthen our presence in these two locations,” says Service Manager Merja Kyllönen from the City of Espoo’s Employment Services.
